Rychnov lies within easy reach of the Elbe Sandstones area and the Czech Switzerland National Park. This area of natural beauty offers fabulous sandstone and basalt rock formations. Miles of hiking trails lead to some of the best rock climbing in central Europe and fantastic outlooks over the Elbe River valley.

Rychnov lies about a 30 minute drive from the spa town of Teplice, which once catered to heads of state and leading lights of the 19th century. You can still sample its healing mineral springs and cures are available by appointment.

Several north Bohemian castles lie nearby. Strekov castle in Usti nad Labem is worth a visit. Guided tours take you to its dungeon and its parapets. A view of the city of Usti from its tower offers a peek at the second most leaning tower in Europe, behind Pisa - the church tower in Usti was knocked off its center by Allied bombing in 1945. Also worth seeing are Bezdez castle near the pleasure lake (with beaches and boardwalk) at Doksy and the Decin castle, which has recently been salvaged after devestation from its occupation by three armies in the past century (the Czechoslovak, Third Reich, and Red Armies).
