During the 12th century Federico di Montefeltro hired some of the greatest renaissance artists and architects to decorate his palace and other parts of the town. The ducal palace and the birth house of the later so famous painter Raphael is just a few of the interesting Urbino-sights worth mentioning.


Further to the north you will find San Leo ? the romantic and cosy village with the impressive fortress, which was used for military purposes as late as during the second world war.
