The surrounding area |

Shoreham Beach enjoys an island-like topography being almost completely surrounded by water. Its out of the way location makes for a tranquil setting rarely visited by tourists. The River Adur to the north joins the sea through the harbour entrance just a few hundred yards from the house. Whilst at high tide the beach is shingle, low tides reveal a vast expanse of flat sand. It wouldn't be unusual to see a few galloping horses on their way to Worthing. The shingle provides a unique haven for many rare plants and animals and has now been declared a nature reserve. You can see many rare plants such as Yellow Horned Poppy, Sea Kale, Red Valerian and Biting Stonecrop and you will often see birds like the Little Egret, Heron, and Cormorant. If you have a passion for fishing then the harbour wall provides a great place to fish for Bream and Sea Bass. For the active amongst you Shoreham Beach is one of the best places on the South coast to come windsurfing or kitesurfing. If you bring a boat there are a couple of slipways where you can launch. Shoreham Beach has the benefit of a footbridge over the River Adur joining it to the main town. Here you will find dozens of eating and drinking establishments catering for all tastes. A Farmers Market is held in Shoreham Town centre on the 2nd Saturday of each month where locally grown produce can be bought. In the centre of town is the beautiful church of St Mary de Haura. To the north, Shoreham is bordered by the South Downs Area of Natural Beauty. A fabulous place to go walking, mountain biking or just for the views. If your tastes are more 'bright lights and big city' then Brighton and Worthing are just a few miles away. With its recent city status Brighton is a wonderful place to go shopping or for a night out. |
