World known for having the largest and best preserved Colonial section the area is currently undergoing a renovation Project sponsored by the city of Quito and FONSAL. The city itself was the second in the world to be names a world Heritage site by Fonsal in 1978. For years the area was neglected by the locals and crime was a problem. But now with a recent surge of interest from international investors, the area has been revitalized as one of Quito?s best places to visit and live. Its charming cobblestone streets and Renaissance churches and Colonial stately homes make it one of Latin America?s most culturally distinguished areas.
