Feteira is a small residential village about 2 miles outside Horta the main town on the island of Faial. The weather in Faial ranges from around 14C in winter to 28C in summer, there is some rain but this is much less prevalent in summer. Faial is the main stopping off area for transatlantic yatchs in the summer & whilst Faial is very quiet, Horta is one of the liveliest resorts in the Azores. The azores is a get away from it all holiday resort ideal for those people who want to do nothing but relax & never see a McDonalds fast food restuarant. Faial is known as the blue island as everything revolves around the sea. There are shops, bars & restuarants in Horta, Canto do Doca does excellent sea food that you cook yourself. Peters Cafe is world famous for yatchsmen & women & serves excellent food & drink. There is excellent walking, diving & big game fishing, Faial is world renowned for catching the biggest blue marlin in the world (July to October). A car is not essential as taxis are extremely cheap, I find it cheaper to use taxis every day rather than hire a car but that's down to personal choice & the drink driving laws that apply to Azores like everywhere else! The villa is on a residential street of some of the nicest houses on Faial. Most owners are Azoreans, but there are some retired people there also. Maria the next door neighbour will make you feel very welcome & no doubt invite you for dinner - watch the red wine! The house was only completed in July 2006 & has been very well appointed. There is a lovely balcony with panaromic views & an undercover barbeque area. There are 3 double rooms & one room with bunk beds. |
