A unique villa in a stunning location by a river in an unspoilt Balinese village. The villa is fully staffed with maid, cook, gardener, pool attendant and night watchman. There are two dogs and four cats, but these can be kept in the separate staff accommodation. Unlike many holiday villas, this is an individually designed house with considerable character. The accommodation is spacious with two bedrooms and bathrooms in the main house and one bedroom with en suite bathroom in a separate guest suite. The villa is decorated with Balinese artefact's, local fabrics and antique teak furniture. The veranda provides a wonderful indoor/outdoor space for dining, relaxing on day beds and looking out over the spacious tropical gardens which extend to river frontage and include three bales (pavilions with cushions and sofas) and a number of spectacular water features, traditional stone carvings and shrines and a cool 1.5 metre deep infinity pool (10 X 4 metres) set among palm trees, teak, giant ferns, orchids and bougainvillea. Although the villa is in a village location, it is only 10 mins from Canggu beach, and 20 mins from the smart restaurants and shops of Seminyak. Kuta, the main tourist drag, is about 30 mins and the airport 40 mins.

Villa Tukad is close to local beaches and a short drive from the popular entertainment, eating and shopping area of Seminyak. But the villa is totally secluded, and the veranda looks out over well-tended gardens bounded by a river in a deep valley skirted by tall, exotic trees. The village has only basic shopping, but the staff can do all your food shopping at nearby bakeries, local markets and western supermarkets. Some of the finest restaurants in Asia are within 25min by car. The nearest beach has cafe and bar open all day, seafood barbecue every night and live music at weekends. The three temples in the village have traditional music and ceremonies. Echo Beach is a major surfing beach. Bicycles are available for riding to the beach or into the rice terraces and villages. The island's main golf, spa resort and sports club is 15 min. Ubud, the major cultural centre is 45 min by car.

The gardens deserve special mention as they contain three pavilions each large enough to contain three or four adults. They are positioned by a large koi fish pond, by the main river, and by a stream that runs through the garden. These are perfect places to relax, read, snooze or have a Balinese massage. There are four recliners around the swimming pool, and a day bed on the veranda. Note that there are five staff based at the villa and they will move furniture, go shopping, bring you drinks and cook for you. The cook comes highly recommended and her specialities include local and western dishes.
