Countryside Cottage in Peaceful Hamlet |
| |
The cottage lies within a hamlet of just four properties, accessed via a quiet country lane that turns into a track shortly after passing out house. This means that there is no though traffic and no road noise.
The property stands in over one acre of mature fenced garden, with garden to the front, side and rear. There is a small orchard with cherry, plum, apple, walnut and sweet chestnut trees. If holidaying in the autumn, you are welcome to help yourselves to any fruit and nuts.
There is parking for two cars on a drive at the front. The rear of the cottage affords pleasant views over the garden and the countryside beyond. A gravel terrace at the rear provides an area for al-fresco lunches and barbecues. A mown path through the grass to the left of the garden leads to another informal seating area with West facing views over fields and rolling countryside - ideal for sunsets.
A charcoal barbecue and ample variety of garden furniture are provided (front garden hard wood table and 6 chairs, front bench, garden swing, rear terrace table and 6 chairs, wrought iron table and 4 chairs, 2 relaxers, 2 sun loungers. All provided with cushions).
The front door opens into a large lounge/dining room. The old original open fireplace is retained with the hearth consisting of one huge granite slab. The original oak beams frame the roof of the lounge. A separate family lounge contains a TV/DVD.
The right hand side of the cottage consists of a family lounge with double sofa bed (4'6" x 4'6" suitable for children). Stairs lead up to the Guest Bedroom. Accessed at ground floor only, it is ideal for a sharing family, parents or guests staying over.
The longere has a lovely large open fireplace, with logs provided. For off season breaks, the longere has electric central heating, which is a combination of oil-filled radiators on a thermostat downstairs, and electric heaters upstairs.
The cottage is cleaned between bookings. We supply duvets and pillows, but please bring your own bed sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases, towels and tea-towels. |
Nearby Village & Town |
| |
The nearest village, Guegon, is just a 5 minute drive and contains a variety of local shops & facilities - bars, general store, boulangerie-patisserie, doctors, pharmacy, boules court, picnic area, tennis courts.
The nearest town is Josselin (10 mins) which has two large supermarkets and a selection of shops, restaurants, and pavement cafes in its medieval streets. The Chateau is open to the public and overlooks the banks of the River Oust from where you can take boat trips. Don't miss the excellent local market held on Saturdays.
Nearby in Ploermel is the Dukes Lake, the largest lake in Brittany. You can undertake a wide range of activities in and around the lake such as swimming from a man made beach, golf, walking, cycling, and a wide variety of water sports. |
Within easy travelling of the Morbihan coast |
| |
There is a huge choice of fine sandy beaches within easy driving distance (45 mins), where you can enjoy swimming, sand yachting, water-skiing, windsurfing, sailing, snorkelling, kite surfing or body surfing. Some of the most popular beaches are at Carnac, La Trinite Sur Mer, Lamor Plage, and the Quiberon peninsular. There are countless further quiet beaches to discover.
One of the best day trips is to take a boat trip to explore the Gulf of Morbihan, including a stop off at one of the many islands. Belle Isle, the beautiful Isle, is the largest island off the coast of Brittany and can be visited from a variety of departure ports.
If beaches are not your thing, there are many characterful small villages and larger towns in the region. Auray is a lovely old town with lots of shops and restaurants, an old port and an excellent Sunday market. Vannes is a large town on the edge of the Gulf of Morbihan with an old quarter bustling with good restaurants and small shops.
A selection of good quality guide books and maps are available from the cottage, together with a comprehensive tourist information file.
We have many suggestions of places to visit and things to do in the local area contained within our personal web site - full details will be supplied to those making a booking. |
