This is an old city with new parts. Colonial Quito was inhabited by the Spainards from its earliest times until Ecuador became a democracy somwhere in 1800's. Downtown Quito has very old world charm and lots of ancient history with churches galore. Also there are many old haciendas around the city that are very gracious and the food is like no other. The scenery gets better the higher up you go and it doen't take but 15 minutes to get up to a high point. Many parks to lounge in and of course Malls that are elegant and fashionable abound.

Quicentro, a very exclusive mall with Gucci and Cartier and several other designers is 2 blocks away. There is a big store called Megamaxi two blocks to the North. It is like Walmart supercenter and has everything. La Choza, a favorite restaurant is in downtown. That you will have to take a txxi to get to. In Mall of the Americas, there are many excellent restaurants all in one area with a movie theatre. I recommend Spaghetti. It will take about 15minutes to get to. Parks are everywhere you turn. Just look outside the apartment and you will see one.

Metropolitan hospital is the "Gring" or American hsopital with many fine physicians. My husband had a head to toe CT scan while there and the total bill was $200. We were treated like kings and queens and the physicians were exceptionally good. I would trust my children there at any time.
