Apartment Simoom

Apartment Simoom is a brand new third floor property, incorporating traditional Moroccan touches into a clean comfortable modern apartment. Occupying the top floor of one of Essaouira?s most prestigious new apartment blocks, the flat has a very light and airy feel with high ceilings helping to keep it deliciously cool during the day. Bedrooms and balcony overlook a Plaza, with views to the Medina, Forest and Beach, whilst the Roof Terrace gives uninterrupted 360 degree views across the Town, Beach and Countryside.
Next to the Apartment are a supermarket and a pharmacy, and across the plaza is a patisserie and a restaurant. The apartment is 3 minutes stroll from the centre of Essaouira?s beach, and directly inshore from the Club Mistral Kitesurf/Windsurf Centre. This is co-located with a very relaxing Beach Café with sun-loungers and free wireless internet access. The Medina is a pleasant stroll along the Beach or a 2 minute taxi ride away. The taxis are cheap, reliable, friendly and easy to pick up in the Plaza.
What made us buy the Property?

We went to Essaouira on a kite surfing holiday and just fell in love with everything about the place. The town is easy going, compact, full of exotic Moroccan charm and the wind sports are fantastic as is to be expected of a location on both the wind-surfing and kite-surfing world tours. Essaouira has a well deserved reputation for being a laid back town with a remarkably comfortable mix of traditional Moroccan and western beach culture. The main attractions of the town are the long curving beach and the old town or Medina at its far end. The Club Mistral Watersports Centre is about half way along the bay, three minutes walk from the flat which is directly behind it. There you can find kit for hire and lockers for rent. While you are likely to spend all day on the beach, the Medina is the place to head in the evenings. A walk through Essaouira's Medina is like a journey through time to an exotic and romantic age. It is just this quality which has had it declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and used as a location for many Hollywood films including Orson Wells? ?Othello?, and more recently ?Alexander? and ?Kingdom of Heaven?. Within the old city walls is a bustling mass of tiny streets crowded with brightly coloured shops of every kind. Here you can have your fill of Moroccan goods; carpets, shoes, marquetry, lamps, leather, jewellery, paintings, traditional style crockery, all part of a thriving artisan tradition. Keep wandering and you will find the fish souk, the silver souk, the vegetable market and so on. When you have had enough shopping you can retire to the main plaza overlooking the sea, and find a seat at one in a number of cafés and watch the world go by. The Medina is full of restaurants for later on, in traditional Moroccan courtyard based houses (Riads) offering a wonderful range of local and European food, with excellent fresh fish just about everywhere. The climate is very pleasant, warm in the day and cool by night even in high summer. What really made the holiday for us though and cemented our decision to buy a property there, was the welcome we got from the local people and the lack of hassle on the streets and in the shops, particularly when the female members of our party were walking alone.
Getting around

The medina (or walled town) is pedestrian only. Essaouira is quite a small town, so a car is only necessary if one plans on taking day trips to nearby beaches or beyond. There are car hire agencies where it is possible to hire by the day.
Everything in Essaouira is within walking distance.
