Why did we buy a property in Cyprus and this area

Well if it was good enough for the Greek Goddess Aphrodite, who according to the legend made her home there, it was good enough for us........and of course the year round sun certainly helped!
Cyprus is a hugely diverse and beautiful Mediterranean island with amazing history and culture. For such a small island it has so much to offer: alluring beaches, mountain peaks, stone villages that haven't changed for 200 years, vineyards of olive trees and citrus groves, ancient ruins and monasteries, and finally but by no means least superb food and wine.
We found the west of Cyprus had the most to offer and settled on Peyia because of it's perfect location and great amenities in the village (including some fabulous restaurants). The airport is only a half hours drive, the beach five minutes, the UNESCO heritage town of Pafos close by and if you really need to get away from it all you can be in the Troodos mountains in just over 45 minutes.
Top tips for visiting Cyprus

1) Hire a car. Rental costs for a reliable mid size car with air con are relatively inexpensive (£150 per week) and the road network is excellent. There is a new network of motorways, and traffic on these is always very light, making it extremely easy to visit sites of interest. A bonus for UK visitors is the driving is on the left with right-hand drive cars.

2) Take time to visit the hills and mountains. You will find stone villages almost hanging off the mountain side with the most amazing churches and monasteries. The Troodos mountains with bracing pine-scented air are incredibly peaceful, a great place to unwind.

3) Close by, you must visit the Akamas region. An untouched area great for hiking and then cooling off afterwards in Aphrodite's pool.

4) Be sure to do a vineyard tour in the highlands north of Pafos. Cyprus boasts the highest production rate of grapes in the world in proportion to it's size. Despite this most Cyprus vineyards are small and retain a special quaintness about them.
