This charming stone and oak beamed converted bakery in the award-winning village of St Gilles de Vieux Marche which is famous for its floral displays.
In the heart of Brittany, the village is just 90 minutes from the ports of Roscoff and St Malo and the airports of Dinard and Brest. The large house, which was used as an hotel annexe after the bakery closed, can sleep up to 12 people in 5 ensuite bedrooms. The spacious lounge has a woodburner set in a beautiful Breton fireplace. A newly fitted kitchen features the original baker's oven. Full central heating makes La Boulangerie the perfect retreat regardless of the season.
Ground Floor: The tiled floors downstairs make for easy maintenance. The lounge, which was used as a function room by the hotel, has a leather suite and easy chairs with local antique Breton furniture. English satellite TV, DVD player and CD with radio are installed. A large table and chairs are provided to enable you to enjoy those long endless French meals made from real food, fresh from the local markets.
The kitchen is fully equipped with modern units, cooker, dishwasher, fridge-freezer and microwave. Ample crockery, cutlery, cookerware and glasses are stored in the units along with a mixer/juicer and slow cookpot. A kitchen table and chairs can be used for the informal meals or the intimate dining experience away from the children. The old bread oven and beams add tons of character to this culinary gem.
A large en-suite bedroom cum playroom is ideal for teenagers or those unable to climb the stairs. A bed settee and bunk beds offer a flexible living area. Various games are provided to while away those days when lazing around is your choice.
. A utility room off the rear hall houses the central heating boiler and a washing machine. A separate WC is located at the bottom of the stairs.
First Floor: An old chestnut stairway leads to four large ensuite bedrooms with wooden floors and oak beams.Each room has a double bed with space for a cot if required. These are full height rooms furnished tastefully with antique Breton furniture. Bed linen is provided. Beautiful views of the surrounding countryside can be enjoyed from the south-facing windows. What a way to start the day!
A separate WC is off the corridor linking the bedrooms.
Outside: The rear door opens onto a magical, fully enclosed walled garden, terrace and large slate-tiled patio. When the sun shines this is a private tanning heaven. Beautiful scented roses bloom all summer long to add to your pleasure. Garden furniture including sun-loungers, hammock and barbecue are provided.

St. Gilles de Vieux Marche is a 4 star village fleuri bedecked each year with stunning floral displays. All the villagers are justly proud of their awards and their wonderful verdant surroundings.
Facilities in the village include tennis courts, a fishing lake, sixteenth century fountain and the Callac standing stone. There is a picturesque hotel and bar with an excellent restaurant which serves a lunchtime five course meal with wine for the grand sum of ten euro. The closest shops are in St. Mayeux (3.5 km. ) which has two supermarkets, post office and bar.
The Poulancre valley leads from the village to the town of Mur de Bretagne (4.5 km.) which has the full range of shops , supermarkets, bakeries, chemists, bank, post office and various restaurants and bars. This is a great place to spend a few hours and the local tourist office can be found beside the church in the centre.The very helpful staff will be glad to suggest various outings and events.
Pontivy (22 km. ) is a large town with a beautiful chateau and old town quarter. Formerly called Napoleonville after his design of the new town it has a beautiful setting on the Nantes-Brest canal and has everything you could possibly need for a day's excursion including a swimming pool. Josellin with its fairytale castle and the city of St. Brieuc with its shopping centres are other places to while away a few hours.
St. Gilles's location is ideal for exploring the charms of central Brittany and enjoying its most welcoming people.Its traffic free roads and no rush attitude will remind you of an era that has long ago disappeared into our cultural heritage. Come and enjoy its charming villages,valleys,forests and lakes with miles of walks along the Blavet river and the Nantes to Brest canal. The eight mile long Lac de Guerledan is only five minutes away with various safe sandy beaches and lakeside restaurants. For the water enthusiast you can hire a motor boat, canoe, kayak, rowing boat or pedalo. You may take a trip on a pleasure cruiser to explore the tranquil waters and even enjoy a delightful meal on board.
Beaches on all three coasts are within easy reach with the closest being Les Etables sur Mer beside St. Brieuc on the north coast only thirty miles distant.
