Overview |
| |
Located on the picturesque island of Hvar in Croatia famed for its lavender and its picturesque setting as well as its climate, our villa at Sviracina stands in an acre of its own land and on the brow of a hill, with spectacular views across the sea towards the island of Solta and with woods and coastline all around. The nearest cluster of houses is located in the next bay (2km away as the crow flies).
This is the perfect setting for a secluded, peaceful holiday, on the Adriatic/Mediterranean coast which has barely changed, while the world around has gone mad. The views, colours, sounds and tranquility are a magnet which bring visitors back year after year.
This is one of the few remaining truly unspoilt parts of the Mediterranean where the sea competes with the sky to be the most brilliantly blue and the beautiful renaissance town of Hvar is one the jewels of the Adriatic set in a crown of verdant forests and towering peaks.

The villa, a 20 year old private home designed with loving attention to providing space and cool shade as well as warmth, while maximising the benefit of its spectacular setting at the edge of the sea with its numerous balconies, patios and verandahs, is equipped with everything necessary to make a comfortable and charming house in which to spend a holiday.
The accommodation is arranged as a living area on the ground floor and 6 bedrooms with two spacious and modern bathrooms on the 1st floor upstairs.. The accommodation on the ground floor comprises a fully equipped newly fitted kitchen (electric cooker x 2), washing machine, dishwasher, fridge x 2, full range of cooking equipment including a toaster, coffee maker, blender, electric kettle, sandwich maker etc. with a large and glorious traditional stone fireplace, which can be used to create a blazing log fire, music centre, home cinema, electric fan, electric heater and a dining area with table and chairs, although most meals will probably be taken outside on the verandah enjoying a view of the sea and under the shade of the vines. There is an L shaped sitting room with several French windows onto the terrace with sofas, coffee tables and side lights, TV, music centre, and cane furniture.
Upstairs there are six spacious bedrooms and two airy bathrooms with w.c., shower and washbasin (one of them also has a bidet) with outside access staircases from both sides and a magnificent balcony the length of the house overlooking the cobalt sea and pine woods. The bedrooms each has bedside tables and reading lights, four of them with wardrobes and double beds and two with bunk beds and huge mirrored built in cupboards.
Thus, depending on the precise sleeping arrangements, up to 12 people can be accommodated ? certainly two families can stay at the house comfortably. If required, two further guests can be accommodated on mattresses.
Pillows, duvets and bed linen are provided (as are tea towels), but you need to bring your own towels

Outside The Villa If the house is comfortable and charming inside, it is glorious out. Neither the terraced garden nor the fields and woods round about are enclosed, and there is a great feeling of openness and freedom. It really is very beautiful.
The front veranda overlooking the sea, has a table and chairs to seat 12, shaded from the midday sun by a screen of grape vines which fruit prolifically. There is also a traditional hand built barbecue in an alcove on the front verandah, which can be used as an extension of the kitchen. On the other side of the house by the main door there is a patio under the fig tree (whose delicious figs ripen by mid-august) which gets the early morning sun and is lovely for breakfasts; this also provides welcome shade during the afternoon of a hot and sunny day and an outside shower warmed by the sun is located here.
For much of the year the veranda, patios and seaside must be counted as part of the living area. Except in the very worst weather we eat breakfast, lunch and dinner outside, amid wonderful views, intoxicating scents of pine and rosemary, the sound of the sea, the rustling woods and birdsong.
Apart from a small holiday cottage below us, we are the only house in the bay, and the nearest cluster of houses is 2 kms away in the next bay.
Twenty yards from the villa is a mooring area for boats, and sun loungers can be positioned here to catch the last of the afternoon sunshine while the pebble beach may be the choice for children. Below the verandah is a large garage storing the sun loungers, and we have left for guests' use, if wanted, snorkeling equipment, rubber dinghy, body surf board, and various fishing nets and a rod (fishing tackle shop in Hvar).
There is also an outside shower where the water gets warm from the sun and which is great for rinsing off after a dip in the sea.
Many of our guests have asked about the possibility of renting a small motorboat for exploring the many local bays and coves, for fishing and for snorkelling. So, we have decided to offer this amenity to our guests by offering a Yamaha sports dinghy with a 5HP motor. It is one of the easiest boats on the market to handle and comes with full instructions on its use. If you decide to add this extra dimension to your holiday then the key will be provided by our agent in Hvar. It is, perhaps, the best way of ensuring your sea food supper is fresh!!
