The Pink House

This architect?s stunning rural retreat was recently renovated with attention to the character of a late seventeenth century farmhouse. Situated in secluded, landscaped grounds the house is furnished in a blend of period and contemporary styles and features items from the owners private art collection as well as regional craftwork. There are two, elegant, spacious bedrooms; one with a stylish ensuite. The main bathroom is designed for pampering. The sitting room has a wood-burning stove, bookcases and cosy, relaxing furnishings. The kitchen has modern equipment in a traditional style. It leads to a large sunporch fitted with a comfy couch. The gardens are planted with colour to mark the seasons.
The house is located in the heart of the Barrow/Nore River valleys less than one hour from Rosslare harbour, two hours from Dublin and 40 min from Waterford Airport. The neighbouring medievel town (4km) has, in addition to two wonderful restaurants and café with seating overlooking the square, the ruins of an Augustinian Priory founded, in 1206.
The rivers Barrow and Nore, provide excellent fishing as well as the setting for walks and horse riding. The route from the early Irish monastic pilgrimage site of St Mullin?s to historic town of Graiguenamanagh along the Barrow and the Royal Canal, taking about an hour and a half. Combined with lunch in Coffee on the High in Graiguenamanagh it is a wonderful way to experience the colour of an Autumn afternoon. There are nearby a number of recognised walks, the South Leinster Way, Kilkenny to Inistioge ? or one can just walk up the hill behind the house and see for miles across the landscape. There are a number of golf courses close including the famed Mount Juliet. There are thriving craft schools and workers in the surrounding countryside. The Craft School at Thomastown, affords the opportunity to buy works of up and coming young artists. The Irish Arts Councils has its headquarters at Kilkenny. There are numerous Antiques Shops in the district. The area has a number of good antiquarian book sellers, particularly in Graiguenamanagh.
