Charming Restored Villa in Atmospheric Galle Fort |
| |
This is a great place - full of historic atmosphere and right on the edge of the ocean. The Malabar House is a recently restored town house with a charming courtyard and pool. Tastefully furnished with pieces from all over Asia, the house is perfect for families or a romantic honeymoon hideaway. Designed with the ensuite master bedroom upstairs, steps lead to a large roof terrace for sunbathing, a cocktail to watch the sun go down over the ocean, or dining. All other bedrooms are downstairs facing the courtyard and pool. The high walls allow gentle breezes to flow through the Villa providing shelter from the midday heat. Honeymooners will love this place and families too. Children can safely explore The Fort and its Ramparts. Your daily maid can repare your breakfast. |
GALLE FORT |
| |
This is the capital of the southern Province of Sri Lanka. Galle boasts a long history stretching back centuries, even before the Portguese, Dutch and British Colonial days. Today The Fort is an exclusive and historic 90 acre preserve, declared an archeologial reserve by UNESCO since 1969. This walled city (unaffected by the tsunami) is the slow beating heart of Galle, bearing witness to its past through the near crumbling architecture of grand old buildings, streets names and Dutch churches. Galle Fort is the only place in Sri Lanka that still retains its old world atmosphere. The sounds of Galle are the call to prayer from Mosques, Pali chants from Buddhist temples, fish sellers and tinkers hawking their wares on Main Street. It's fine old colonial mansions, narrow streets and antique cars roaming the town make Galle Fort a hauntingly beautiful escape into the past. Enter through the "old" Dutch gate or the "new" English one. The Malabar House is very close to the Ramparts, and small beaches that are ideal for a morning dip. |
BEACHES, SNORKELLING, DIVING - UNWATAUNA BEACH |
| |
Unawatuna Beach has been voted the prettiest bay in the world and rightly so. It is a 10 minute ride in a tuk tuk from The Malabar House. All manner of water sports are available here and great beach restaurants line the waters edge. This is the place to watch the world go by in a beautiful setting. |
